Quota provides funding for ASL Interpreters through Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services:

D & HHS is the only non-profit agency in West Michigan that coordinates professional American Sign
Language interpreting services. We schedule services for courts, hospitals, colleges, state and county
government, mental health agencies, performing art venues, conference facilities, and all types of
businesses. We also have an after-hours answering service for medical and police emergencies. The
D&HHS Interpreter Services program fills approximately 300 assignments per month.
All interpreters working as independent contractors through D&HHS are either state or nationally
certified, in accordance with state law. Several of our interpreters also carry endorsements needed for
specific assignments, such as medical, mental health, legal, educational, or deafblind. D&HHS works to
assign the highest qualified interpreter to each assignment. We match interpreters to your client’s
specific communication needs. Our staff makes it easy for your organization to comply with state and
federal laws, guaranteeing equal communication access to your deaf and hard of hearing clients.
We fill more medical assignments than any other type and have many interpreters carrying the
endorsement needed for these requests. We serve hospitals in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Muskegon,
Holland, Zeeland, and Grand Haven. Our customer list includes the county offices of Michigan
Rehabilitation Services, Community Mental Health, and Department of Health & Human Services in six
different counties. We have served over 40 different courts, as well as legal aid offices and several
police/sheriff offices.
If you have a need for an interpreter, you can reach our office Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm
at 616-732-7358. To contact us for emergency requests outside of these hours, you may call our after-
hours service at 616-732-6124.
