I can’t believe that it’s December already! I don’t know about you, but just yesterday I was writing 2011 instead of 2012 because the year was so new.
The end of the year seems to me to bring added pressure. The traditional holiday routines that all must be done, shopping, the year-end business deadlines, holiday gatherings that you may or may not want to attend, cleaning the house for guests, what are you going to wear?!, getting out all those decorations and putting them up again, making lots of food, trying not to eat lots of food, perhaps thinking about those resolutions you didn’t keep.
When I start in with the “I have to’s”, I try to remember to say “I get to”. It reminds me that I don’t have to do any of those things if I really don’t want to, and more importantly, it reminds me that there are many people out there who don’t even have the opportunity to do those things. Once again, I’m humbled by how small my thinking is given the bigger picture.
