thank you (from Betty and District 20)

Hello District 20 Members:

I wish to thank everyone who participated in our 65th District 20 Conference.   You came from far and wide to have fun plus participate in the governing of your District 20.

This was a heartwarming weekend for me, meeting up once again with long time Quota Friends, new Quota Friends and our President Elect Laura Lahman.  I trust all attendees felt the same way.

Our conference opened with the Parade of the Quota Flags followed by the “Cool Cats” in their rendition of the National Anthem of the United States of America.  Their performance was so heartwarming and received an overwhelming applause.   We also recited a poem written by E. Vera Hall, QI Past International President 1968-1969 from Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Our guest speaker, Julie Pioch, presented us with challenges on our knowledge of Quota and Parliamentary Procedure.  My thanks to Julie for such an interesting presentation and having us answer with buttons allowing us all to always be correct.  From the Flint Club, Connie Rau and Renee Keswick drove up especially to present a group discussion on Membership Retention.

The nominating committee worked tirelessly this year.  They presented the slate of Kathleen Holt, Governor and Jeanette Gravlin, Lt Governor.  The election was unanimous.

We breezed through the reports, due to the efficiency of our Committee Chairs.

Our buffets were fit for the Queens we are.  At lunch we heard from Laura Lahman on her passion, Junior Clubs.  She was accompanied by Shelley Warwick sharing with us the formation of our first Junior Club in Port Huron.  Our banquet was full of excitement also.  President Elect Laura conducted a grand Installation Ceremony with gifts for all of us.  Susan Schneberger and her elves entertained us, in  their own special way, with a successful auction.   We attained our goal of monies for the District 20 Coffee Hour sponsorship at the International Convention, 2012. “Thank you everyone!!!!!!!!!!”    On Sunday our Celebration of Life was once again an emotional and heartwarming presentation.  The Listening Tour for District 20 was then shared with us by Brenda Chadwick.

I would be remiss by not overwhelmingly Thanking QI Grand Rapids for the extremely delightful FUNnite!  Also, thank you, for their organization in giving us an excellent weekend.  We will be looking forward to the possibility of a Quota Club in Holland in the near future.   I am sure Laura Lahman would do the International honors.

It has been my pleasure serving you the last two years.  Each Club received me with warmth and friendship. I will be joining the ranks of the has-beens (past Governors) but know that these women are always ready and able to assist when called into action.

My fellow Quotarians—always remember — DISTRICT 20 is the best!!!!

May your walk through the Hall of Fame continue to keep you on the path of fulfilling your life long dreams.

REMEMBER:  WALK TO END THE SILENCE  —  SEPTEMBER 18, 2011

Kind Regards,   Betty

1. GROWING QUOTA PAYS DIVIDENDS!

Organizing a new Quota branch or club pays dividends to your district, your organization, AND YOU!  Here’s how:

*Organize a club branch with five or more new members and you will earn $150, your club will receive a $150 administrative stipend, and the branch will receive a $150 service grant!

*Organize a new club with 15 to 19 members (10 of whom are new) and you will earn $300 AND your new club will receive a $300 service grant.

*Organize a new club with 20 or more new members and you will earn $500 AND your new club will receive a $500 service grant.

There are additional benefits if the branch or club you organize grows, and there is no greater gift to Quota than organizing more helping hands for service. Our organizers are our heroes! Learn more online:  http://www.quota.org/organize-a-club/

2. JOIN QUOTA’S CONVERSATION

Quota International has replaced its original Facebook GROUP with a new Facebook PAGE geared more towards use by businesses and organizations. This was done because Facebook announced that it was going to start archiving all Facebook groups (like Quota’s original group) that were created using the old group format. Users of the original Facebook group were notified and a link to the new page was published. You can reach Quota’s NEW Facebook page by using this link:  http://www.facebook.com/QuotaInternational or go to www.quota.org and click the Facebook icon on our home page. Check out our other social media connections, too:  YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn!

Garden Party

Cathy

We always hope for the best weather, and it doesn’t always cooperate. We’ll weed in rain or shine (just not downpours) and this year it was cloudy. The rain held off and while the ground was still wet from the rain overnight, that made our job easy! We pulled lots and lots of weeds and beautified the courtyard at Shawnee!

Maureen and Pat

We had lots of help: Anna Moore, Cathy K, Kathy F, Maureen, Pam, Pat, Emily, Mary Kay (Principal at Shawnee) and her two grandkids. The kids brought laughter and joy to the task which motivated us.

Pam donated beautiful geraniums that we planted.

Some parents came in last fall and planted some beautiful tulip bulbs.

I promised no “butt” pictures; these made the cut.

2011 Quotarian of the Year

The QoY is presented annually to someone who has provided an outstanding contribution to our club and community.

Some Quotarians distinguish themselves by totally immersing themselves in the club…from chairing a committee, volunteering on numerous projects, being a board member, to helping financially as well as continuing to be involved in all aspects of the club.

This person has distinguished herself in so many ways….for one, she has been a member for a very long time and is committed to the club, two, she has even served as President of our club and Quotarian of the Year.

Although employed in a very demanding career, (she works with numbers all day long!), she has managed to participate in many of the club activities and fund raisers, such as the walk, the Santa Parade, and the Holiday Shopping Extravaganza to mention a few, as time permitted.

She regularly attends business and Board meetings and has attended many District Conferences.  She helps us stay legal in process.

Recently she has served as a Director on our Board and was a Chair of a committee.

She supports and is involved in many local charities and community events.

She wears very hip and stylish glasses and is preparing to be a grandmother…this rock star has demonstrated professionalism and significant accomplishments this year and always,  Let’s congratulate Peggy Bishop as our Quotarian of the Year for 2011.

President’s Message May 2011

Well, I’m back!  My years in China literally flew by and now it seems like a DREAM!  It was a wonderful dream, of which I will remember every minute!

So, here we go with a new dream that began with a fantastic installation banquet on Thursday night, April 21, at the Cascade Country Club.  We had 23 in attendance and I would like to thank and congratulate all who put it together.  For those of you who could not make it, I am sorry you couldn’t be with us.  Please make sure you about it here if you haven’t had a chance to do so yet.

One thing that wasn’t mentioned was that Emily was absolutely stunning and also very cute with her pink streaked hair.  She will be a hard act to follow.

In addition to a new board, we installed our newest member, Diana Bittrick, who will be a great addition to the club.  Welcome, Diana.

I also want to welcome and thank Martha for the handmade candles that came with a song led by her and Cathy Kaiser.  We may have to book this duet again soon!  Take note, Hospitality Committee.

I would like to thank Robin Keith for the CHOCOLATE!  The giant chocolate Qs were really wonderful.  Mine kept me occupied all the way home.  I think that could be called DWC—driving while chewing.

For those of you who didn’t know, the darling pillows at each place setting were made by Jan Gauthier.  They are so typical of Jan’s creative, thoughtful way and we thank you for them.

Congratulations to our Quotarian of the Year—Peggy Bishop.  It is certainly a well-deserved award!  We appreciate you, Peggy.

Overall, it was a fun way for me to begin my year as President of a club that I am proud to be a part of and one in which I am honored to have a leadership role.  I’ll do my best to be a Lazy Leader!

-Pat Cook
