2nd Annual Walk – thank you!!

Dear Quota Friends,

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you that participated in making the 2nd Annual Quota Cares a success.  It is because of your willingness to come walk, collect donations and give of your time, that this event has once again been successful

Preliminary information from Phyllis shows that we collected in excess of $1,500.00 and we had approximately 50 walkers this year.  That exceeds our last years contributions and more than triples the number of walkers!!!  I will send you the finalized information as soon as I have it correlated.

I want to take this opportunity to thank our Communication committee (headed by Maureen Martin) for keeping the walk in front of our members and our community.  Emily for constantly updating the blog and Robin Keith for the e-mail that you could copy and send to friends.

I thank each and every one of you that participated for making our Walk a success.

Kath

Getting to Know… Pam H.

Pamela H. has been a member of Quota for seven years! She enjoys chocolate and popcorn while watching her favorite movie, “Pretty Woman”.

Pam was asked if she has ever wanted to change one thing about her kids? She said she would like her son to be more organized.  It has been an ongoing discussion since elementary school.  He is 20 now. (editor’s note: this was his age at the time of questioning, sources suggest he may be closer to 22.)

Pam’s routine in getting up in the morning is… do a load of laundry, pick up the house, turn on QVC and have some coffee.

Pam was asked, which would be better? Being a good cook or a good artist. She likes food so being a good cook is more important.

What if Pam were granted three wishes?

  1. She would wish good health for her son.
  2. She would wish for enough money that she could set up a foundation to help to those who need it.
  3. Peace

And finally, Pam was asked, what was her favorite April Fool’s day prank pulled on her? It wasn’t for April Fools but a teacher in high school told her that they were going to get smoked turkey legs at the Thanksgiving assembly.  She believed him.  (Again, she likes food and she is guliable.)

Thanks Pam for sharing a little bit about yourself!

SERVICE COMMITTEE UPDATE – September, 2010

The Service Committee was very excited to have granted funds for technology needs for an individual that is attending Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. this Fall.

Kayla Denton is profoundly deaf, a hard working student, an active member of her community as well as the Deaf community, and has overcome many barriers in her life.

We have invited her to come to one of our meetings when she is on break so she can share her college experiences with us.

Kayla  is a very impressive young lady and we applaud her for all her hard work.  We wish her much success in her college endeavors!

Be watching the Blog for more service projects this Fall from our Chairs, Cathy, Sue, Maureen, Emily, Kath,  and Jan.

President’s Message – September 2010

Summer is still lingering in the air, although I know as I write this the holiday weekend is supposed to bring cool relief. As the heat winds down let our enthusiasm build! Fall is just around the corner here in West Michigan, for Quota this means our 2nd Annual Quota Cares Walk! I hope you’ll join us on Sunday, September 26th at Riverside Park as we walk to raise awareness of Quota. Remember to bring your friends and family. It’s a fun, relaxing walk on a Sunday in the Park… Is there anything better? We have reserved the Pavilion at Boat launch #2, if you have any questions, click here for more information or contact Kath.

If you missed the August meeting and haven’t read the minutes that were sent out, you might have missed an important announcement!! I have set forth a challenge for you. If there are a total of 16 guests at the five remaining regular meetings (September, October, November, February, and March) or there are 25 guests in attendance at the January Membership event, I will dye my hair what ever color you choose. It will be permanent (at least until it grows out)!! Are you up for the challenge? I know you can reach it, we had 21 guests at the last January Membership Event. Remember to invite your friends and coworkers. If you are unsure of how to approach someone, be sure you read this post. I share what I learned at the Leadership Training in Vancouver. Engage your guest in what interests them, find their hot buttons. They will join Quota for different reasons than you did, so talk about what they want. Then share with them how Quota can meet their needs!

The fall months are followed by some busy and exciting winter months. Be sure to check the blog for Committee updates and for our other upcoming events. I hope you enjoy the last unofficial weekend of the summer, happy Labor Day!

Emily
